Lane Baldwin is an internationally-acclaimed bassist, vocalist, and songwriter. In August, 2014 he released The View From Here. Far more ambitious than his previous projects, thanks in large part to the guidance of Producer/Creative Director Polo Jones, The View From Here takes Lane's stories to a much deeper level.
Dig the Hole - the 2008 CD from Lane's band Deeper Blues - has been hailed as some of the best new original Blues in the last thirty years. Blues bass icon Johnny B. Gayden calls Lane one of the best in the business. So it's no surprise that people are already talking about The View From Here.
Lane’s songs have long been hailed as “…the best new Blues in decades,” “a healing force hidden in heartache,” and “authentic, open, and brutally honest,” His bass work has been described as elegant yet powerful, a style that Grammy-nominated producer Peter Bonta calls “deceptively simple.” During a career that has spanned forty years and six continents, Lane has toured and recorded with some of the best Blues, Roots and Americana musicians in the country. In 2008 he released Dig the Hole with his band Deeper Blues, a Power Blues trio that legendary bassist Johnny B. Gayden (Albert Collins) called “perfectly named”.
While the Blues informs everything Lane does, it’s not all he does. As a songwriter, he covers a wide territory of American music – Rock, Folk, Bluegrass, ballads and, of course, blues – including everything from traditionals to modern day, from Piedmont Blues through Jazz-tinged rave-ups, to Heavy Blues/Rock. And yet everything is woven into a single, accesible tapestry, flowing from one style to the next as it takes the listener on a journey unlike any other.
In August, 2014, Lane released the long-awaited follow-up CD, The View From Here. Featuring a roster of top Bay Area talent, including Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney), Nate Ginsberg (Herbie Hancock, Larry Graham), Bryant Mills (John Lee Hooker) and many more, the project is quickly gaining fans and garnering strong reviews as “an American masterpiece from a master storyteller.” The CD is available for digital download on iTunes and CD Baby. A tour is planned for late 2014, continuing throughout 2015.
